Nine Big Ten Schools went to bowl games

Nine Big Ten schools were selected for the bowl competition Sunday, highlighted by college football bowl invites to Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.

The Wolverines were ranked No. ET at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. This will be the first matchup between Michigan and TCU, and will be the 50th appearance in a bowl game in program history.

The College Football Playoff Committee also announced that No. 1 Georgia would face No. 4 Ohio State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on December 31 at 8 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Buckeyes will appear in the Peach Bowl for the first time in program history and will become the seventh different Big Ten team to play in the game. The Big Ten last had a team compete in the Peach Bowl in 2021 when Michigan State defeated Pittsburgh, 31-21.

No. 11 Penn State will face No. 8 Utah in the Rose Bowl Game. The game will be played at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, at 5:00 p.m. ET Jan. 2, 2023. Penn State will make its fourth trip to the Rose Bowl. This year’s game will mark the 73rd Rose Bowl visit by a Big Ten team overall.

The Wolverines will play in the Fiesta Bowl for the second time in program history.

The last time Michigan played in the Fiesta Bowl was in 1985.
Big Ten schools have now made 13 Fiesta Bowl appearances.

Michigan is making its 50th overall bowl appearance and will appear in the college football semifinals for the second time in program history.

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (National College Football Playoff Semifinal)

Ohio State will appear in the Peach Bowl for the first time in program history and will be the seventh Big Ten team to play in the game.

This is the 10th time a Big Ten school has appeared in the Peach Bowl.

The Big Ten last had a team compete in the Peach Bowl in 2021 when Michigan State defeated Pittsburgh, 31-21.

Rose Bowl Game (New Year’s Six Bowl)

A Big Ten school will play in the Rose Bowl for the 73rd time.
Penn State is making its 53rd overall bowl appearance, including its fifth trip to the Rose Bowl.

The Nittany Lions last competed in the Rose Bowl following the 2016 season against USC.

Guaranteed Fee Bowl
Wisconsin vs Oklahoma State
December 27, 2022 – 10:15 a.m. ET (ESPN)

A Big Ten school will play in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl for the first time.

Wisconsin is making its 34th bowl appearance.
The Badgers will participate in a bowl game for the 21st season in a row, which is the third longest bowling streak in the country.

Minnesota vs. Syracuse
December 29, 2022 – 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ESPN)
Bronx, New York (Yankee Stadium)
A Big Ten school will play in the Pinstripe Bowl for the eighth time.
Minnesota is making its 23rd bowl appearance and first in the Pinstripe Bowl.

Duke’s Mayonnaise Bowl
No. 23 North Carolina State vs. Maryland
30 December 2022 – 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ESPN)
Charlotte, North Carolina (Bank of America Stadium)
A Big Ten school will play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl for the second time.

Maryland is making its 29th bowl appearance, while this will be the Terrapins’ first trip to the Mayo Bowl from Duke.

Iowa vs. Kentucky
December 31, 2022 – 12:00 p.m. m. Eastern Time (ABC)
Nashville, Tennessee (Nissan Stadium)
A Big Ten school will play at the Music City Bowl for the ninth time.
Iowa is making its 35th bowl appearance and its first trip to the Music City Bowl.

ReliaQuest Bowl
No. 22 Mississippi State vs. Illinois
January 2, 2023 – 12:00. m. Eastern Time (ESPN2)
Tampa, Florida (Raymond James Stadium)
A Big Ten school will play in the ReliaQuest Bowl for the 34th time.

Illinois is making its 20th bowl appearance, including its second trip to the ReliaQuest Bowl.
